“My biggest struggle with my wardrobe was that it felt outdated and not flattering.
I was worried that I won’t look good in the types of clothes I want to try. I wanted to get rid of clothes that didn’t work for me and have a good collection of everyday outfits that I feel confident in wearing. I now know to buy items that will work with more than one look and not to splurge on things that I will wear only once or if an item doesn’t fit right either return it or get it altered.”

“Even if I were ever able to find something that would fit well then it was a question of how do I match this with other items? I would think, ‘Did I look like an idiot or is this cool?’ I didn’t really have the skills to assess that.
[With a stylist] You’re always a little bit apprehensive, I think, just because there’s a lot of trust that goes into this. You have to have a good relationship with your consultant and they have to understand who you are. They have to find clothing that matches what you want. You just have to have a level of trust and I took the leap of faith. It’s fun experimenting with clothing and trying different things that you don’t think that you normally would like but then you have someone helping you and then all of a sudden it’s like, ‘Oh, like I actually really like this look!’
I think getting a second set of eyes and expert’s eyes on this is kind of a no brainer decision. I think you’d be surprised at what you find out; even if you think you have a decent idea already.”

I knew Curate would be different from all other programs since the start. Instead of the traditional fashion styling sessions where a stylist shops for you, Ashley created Curate, which taught me the basics of fashion to help me formulate outfits on my own.
This helped immensely as I came into the program shy and uncertain about fashion all around. Over the weeks, I created a closet that works really well for me, my style, my personality, and my life. Now, I’m very comfortable and confident in my ability to dress myself the way I want to.
Overall, I’m happy to say, I’m no longer scared of my clothes! Instead, I’m so eager to style myself and try on new outfits. My curiosity is exploding with possibilities these days. Thank you, Ashley!

“I didn’t like to shop because there are so many options and I don’t have a concept of what looks good on me. I only shopped once a year and I didn’t have a system – I just bought whatever I needed.
This year I’m turning 31 and I feel like from 20 to 30 I didn’t really enjoy the beauty of myself. I wanted to take advantage of this primetime! I wanted to work with someone who is really talented and good at what they do but they are committed. I interviewed with two other image consultants but I didn’t feel like they were committed or like I was taken care of. I was looking for a system; for someone to take their time to know what I want.
I feel like Ashley’s process was one where I can learn and improve. Now I don’t have to worry about what shoes to wear today because I have plenty of choices. Invest in a coach because with someone else’s help you can have fun with the process – you don’t feel like you’re alone.

“I’d walk in my closet and feel like I have nothing to wear. And then for the couple of pieces that I did have, I’m like, ‘How do I make this actually look better?’ It was a bit frustrating to get dressed; so it was easier just to throw on sweats and wear the same things over and over when I have a closet full of clothes.
I wanted to be excited about getting dressed! What surprised me was getting pieces that are multi-functional because I’m a very functional person. I like that we found things that I can wear to work and I then wear outside of work or I can wear with a tennis shoe but then put a heel on later and now it’s dressed up.
I enjoyed getting clothes sent directly to me and opening it was like Christmas; I think I’ve been excited to get things that I wouldn’t have picked for myself. That was exciting to be able to step out of my comfort zone. I think people should work with a stylist because they can have you think outside of the box – they can help you put things together that you might not have thought about. It can be Christmas every day!”
